How APS Calculation Works

The Admission Point Score (APS) is a standardized scoring system used by South African universities to assess student eligibility. Here's how it works:

APS Points Scale (NSC)

80-100%= 7 points (Outstanding)
70-79%= 6 points (Meritorious)
60-69%= 5 points (Substantial)
50-59%= 4 points (Adequate)
40-49%= 3 points (Moderate)
30-39%= 2 points (Elementary)
0-29%= 1 point (Not Achieved)

Important Rules

  • Your APS is calculated from your best 6 subjects
  • Life Orientation is excluded from the calculation
  • Maximum possible APS is 42 points (6 subjects × 7 points)
  • Different programmes have different minimum APS requirements
